The other input of the NAND two should not be connected to anything yet. Connect one of the inputs of the NAND two the reset switch. Connect load to an output end of an U18A, a negative inverter, connect the input of the U18A to a NAND two input. Next grab a clock voltage source and connect the positive the positive end to the clock. The only ones that should still be empty is the CLK and LOAD. Connect A- D to power so when the counter loops it will start at zero. The now the other input of the AND two can be connected to the switch. Now grab a 5V power, ground, and switch.Ĭonnect the top of the switch to power and the bottom to ground. the other input of the AND two should not be connected to anything yet. The output to the NAND four should be connected to the input of an AND two the output of the AND two should be connected to all teh clears. Connect all the resistors to the display, and on the other side of the resistors connects them to the letter A-G on the right side of the 74LS48. Now get a NAND four gate and connect the inputs to not Q on the most left JK, Q on the middle JK, and Q on the most right JK. Than go get seven 220 ohm resistors and a seven segment display. Then I grabbed another 5V VCC power and connect LT, RBI, abd BI/RBO to the power. Since we are not using D in this design I too a ground and grounded the D to it. Then I will connect the A from the 74LS48 to the most left probe, do this until you have letter D left. Then, I place a 74LS48 down to the right of the last flip flop giving it enough room to clearly see my connections. Next, I place three probes down connected these also to the Q's- this where the last Q can be connected to something. Then, since I knew I wanted an up counter I connected my Q's to to the adjacent clocks the third flip flop Q does not need to be connected to anything yet. Next I placed a 5V VCC, power, in an area far enough so you can clearly see my connections clearly and connected all the presets, J's, and K's to power. The first thing I did was create my tens column- the SSI gates- and placed down three JK counters since the highest number I'm counting to is five. In the beginning or my project I started with Multisim, because I felt more confident with using it. A '193 is an up and down counter, it starts at any number you want it to, but when its time to stop or loop the counter whatever number you want to stop on you have to add one. A '163 counter is a very unique one it starts at any number like other counters, it cannot count down, but unlike the rest the binary number you choose to stop at or use as a loop is shown instead of using the number before. The difference between synchronous and asynchronous circuits is that synchronous circuits are in sync with the clock and are triggered by the rising or falling edge of the clock while asynchronous circuits are not in sync with the clock they are triggered by the values of D, J,K, Q or not Q.
